Saul is focused on himself, not the task at hand which was to defeat the Philistines. What will the people say if he is defeated by the Philistines? Saul's son Jonathan was not concerned about losing. He knew God could deliver them a victory. (I Samuel 14:6) The Philistines army is panicked, Saul and his army fully engage the Philistines. Israel is rescued by the Lord that day but if not for the rash oath by Saul the victory would have been greater. In today's message we learn that when we focus on our honor we can dilute divine blessing.
